Robert Nesta Marley was an incredible musician that was born and raised in Nine Mile Jamaica on February 6, 1945. He was a global ambassador of stellar reggae, and produced music with the band Bob Marley and the Wailers and he was the lead singer. He wrote his music with Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Junior Marvin, Rita Marley and others. Marley was also famously known for his Jamaican culture and his great involvement with Rastafarians and Pan-Africanism all around the world. Marley produced the music genre of reggae, a style of popular music that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s and quickly emerged as Jamaica's dominant music, and it was widely perceived as a voice of the oppressed. His music shares his experience as a black man and what his black culture truly meant to him. Marley used his concerts as a way to quell political violence between the two political parties on the island of Jamaica during the mid 1960 to early 1970. Pan-Africanism, which refers to the movement that encourages and strengthens the bonds of solidarity between all indigenous people and diasporas of African Ancestry. Bob Marley's Pan-Africanism also ties into his time as a very devoted Rastafarian. Rastafarians believe in one God, called Jah, and they believe that God makes himself known through humanity. After Bob Marley's career and after he had passed away he was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. Sadly, Bob Marley's life was tragically shortened by melanoma, which led to his death on May 11, 1981.
