- Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little on May 19th, 1925, to Earl and Louis Little, in Omaha, Nebraska. active in the civil rights movement and is a figure of black solidarity. Being raised in a hostile environment, he faced profound hardships, including the death of his father and the institutionalization of his mother. After serving time in prison for burglary, he converted to the Nation of Islam, where he adopted the name Malcolm X. Malcolm’s rhetoric and advocacy for black nationalism made him the spokesman for the NOI. Malcolm X worked with figures like Elijah Muhammad, the NOI leader, and met prominent figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. and President Nasser. After a pilgrimage to Mecca in 1964, Malcolm left the NOI and embraced Sunni Islam, adopting the name El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. This change led to his establishment of the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU), promoting Pan-Africanism. Malcolm's activism extended globally, connecting with African and Middle Eastern leaders. Tragically, his life was cut short when he was assassinated on February 21st, 1965, at the age of 39, while preparing to speak in the Audubon Ballroom in New York City, New York.
