- Transcription
- Casa San Martín is a large cream colored house in downtown Boulogne-sur-Mer, with an Argentine flag hanging outside. At the time when San Martín moved in, he lived on the second floor while the owner, Mr. Gérard, remained there as well. He lived there with his daughter and her husband. Inside are paintings, plaques, and other artifacts or memorabilia in his honor. Jose de San Martín left South America in 1824, lived in Belgium and ultimately settled in France. He chose to avoid the continuing political struggles in South America and felt he didn’t have a place there anymore. Jose de San Martín died in 1850. After being purchased in 1826, the house served as the Argentine consulate until 1966, and now is a museum honoring the life of Jose de San Martín.
