- The chapel was described by Abbé Ouvière as “a long splendidly illuminated room, full of crude images, adorned by flowers and relics.” It had an altar which had a tabernacle on it, and it likely had a statue of the Virgin Mary2 . The chapel would be guarded by “armed men and women” during prayer and ceremonies and was described as being Catholic in nature3
