- This plaque, which is in David Walker’s hometown of Wilmington, NC serves as a reminder of who he was and all that he did for black people in his generation and others after him. While Walker may not have lived long enough to see the benefits of the impact he had when it comes to the abolition of slavery, his words were able to ignite a flame in those who took matters into their own hands. Historical actors like Nat Turner, Marcus Garvey, and Huey Newton may have been inspired by Walker’s words by preaching the same sentiments that appeared in the appeal. All of these revolutionary individuals participated in the ongoing fight for political, economic, and social liberation of black people globally, but through the same methods that Walker advised.
